Holly has done 10 good deeds. They are a trusted GoodGym runner and are now eligible to join their local TaskForce.
Baffins Pond Association reached out to us for help in creating their Baffins News 2021 Issue! It was a collective effort from various members of the GG Portsmouth hive, highlighting our different skills!
We had a fitness article from our very own trainer Katie, a white clay recipe and craft idea from Sam, gardening anagrams from Mel and fun for kids from Holly! My job was to put all their wonderful work together with the BPA information & adverts :)
Well done team, magazines should be out for print next week so keep your eyes peeled on picking up your own copy!
We have offered to help Baffins Pond Association get their magazine together for next year's release! It's a 20 page A5 booklet with contact details, event dates for the year, interesting articles (this is where you lovely lot come in!) and a hopefully a puzzle or two!
Please sign up if you are a budding journalist, photographer or puzzle maker and would love to add your touch to the Baffins magazine!
I believe we're looking for at least 9 one page articles (though I'm still confirming with Hilary how much is required from us!) on a variety of subjects. These can be something that inspires you about Baffins; it's history, previous events, gardening, the work we do in their orchard etc etc!
Ideally I'd love to have anything you can provide by December 17th (if not before) so I can get the PDF together and to them to print! :)
This weekend was World Clean Up Day and the Package Free Larder challenged the people of Portsmouth to pick up some plastic or rubbish around their streets, anytime, anywhere, for however long!
Of course GoodGymers cannot turn down a challenge, especially one doing something we love so much - doing good, cleaning up our city and getting fit while we're at it! So, 8 (and a few half) GoodGymers tackled their local streets this weekend in honor of world clean up day :)
Mel gathered a huge haul and was so thankful for the Package Free Larder's challenge!
Katie CR, Sam & Holly (accompanied by little B) tackled Burrfields Road together sporting GG pride well, with a photo op in front of our very own MAKE scarecrow!
Jen visited our old GG Portsmouth stomping grounds and had a brimming plastic bag in just a matter of minutes!
Dr Jo Went to the beach to be pleasantly surprised by only one plastic wrapping, so instead watched the sun set while cleaning up Castle field
Maxine discovered how popular it was to leave half full beer cans on house walls and bins. Her bag fill stank of beer by the end of her walk!
Katie L gathered a large bag of rubbish around the block, including sadly some face masks - another problem of this virus! But had a brilliant story to share from her 2 year old who tagged along
2 year old shamed some chaps outside their local by pointing at all the cigarette stubbs at their feet and cheering "yay more ubbish pickitup pickitup" 😄 They told her they would!
Great work GoodGymers and keep an eye out for a week filled with Beach Cleans for the Marine Conservation beach clean week!
Three fabulous GoodGym volunteers continued the good work behind the scenes of the Naomi & Jacks place charity shop. We all got stuck in right away with hanging, size cubing the hangers and sorting donations into size and item type. To throw a spanner in the works the shop have all items as follows: garment facing you, hanger to the left EXCEPT for dresses - simple ask you might think!! Nope we all go confused multiple times! As always I didn't leave empty handed and found a lovely pair of trousers for £1! The £1 sale continues and the charity would really appreciate your support. They also have THREE wedding dresses each just £1 - again please spread the word. A lovely afternoon chatting to friends and doing good!
We are lending a hand with sorting, sizing and hanging the clothes that have come from their warehouse and other shops. At the moment they are not taking donations from the public so the donations are all ready to go out into the shop.
If you are interested in learning the ropes on the till and doing more customer facing work, that is also an option!
Please bring a face covering as this task is inside.
Wowzers what a weekend! Sixteen GoodGymers took on the most important July challenge ever. Who would win...Team Santa or Team Summer. The photos say it all really, incredible effort and I think this should be an annual event. So who had the quickest 5km time I hear you ask.......well it would seem the Santa beards slowed down the Santa's and the beach wear was ever so slightly more appropriate for running in July.......who knew? Team Summer had an excellent average time of 28 minutes 38 seconds and the Santa's weren't far behind with the average time of 29 minutes and 43 seconds. Great running teams!
The C word has been mentioned at GoodGym Portsmouth and as we’re halfway through the craziest year we thought we’d celebrate GG style with a training session. You can join one of two teams: Team Santa or Team Summer Who will have the average fastest 5km time? Fancy dress compulsory! Team Santa think Santa hats, beards, Christmas jumpers, festive leggings & tinsel! Team Summer think Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, sunglasses, visors & pina coladas! Complete your 5km anytime over the weekend. Please send photos and run times to Sam 07902858333
Perhaps we did not like the same things as Maria but I think we could still sing about them! This week we had 15 GoodGymers rummaging around their houses and local areas to find 25 of our collective favorite things.
The list varied from some easy finds (rainbows are currently everywhere if you hadn't noticed!) to some more elusive ones; wild orchids & four leaf clovers! A few GoodGymers did find them though, Lynn got some strange looks and a comment on her bum whilst she was bending over looking for a four leaf clover! And we have learnt there are two different Whiskies; Whisky & WhiskEy - Catherine likes the former, but we've let the WhiskEy photos slide ;)
I've also enjoyed seeing some people's creative takes on items, Holly had her own wave making machine in the bath (her kid!), Angela found a Unicorn on a road, and a mosaic on a lane, Judy snapped multiple items off of the list with an Elephant picnic laid out! And Rosie treated herself to a Cornetto as a Unicorn - wish I had thought of that, would have been an excuse to have ice cream! People did seem to enjoy the excuse for getting a cake, or cinnamon bun for something cinnamon..!
No one managed to find all 25 favorite things, but I believe our closest was 24/25 by our very own leader Katie CR! Well done Katie, and everyone else for your scavenging and fun photos!
This week we'll all be going on a Photo Scavenger hunt! What are we looking for?
These are a few of our favorite things
- Bench with a view
- Cuppa Tea
- Daisies (bigger the better!)
- Four leaf clover
- Ice Cream Van
- Nature overtaking man-made structures
- Smile from a dog
- Something bright green
- Something cinnamon (cinnamon buns!?)
- Street Art
- VW camper van
- Waves in the water
- Wild orchids
So come and join, share a favorite thing, learn about your fellow GoodGymers fav stuff and get scavenging! See how many items on the list you can find by June 10th 8pm and send your collages to my email: email@example.com :)
