Goat-al Eclipse of the Heart

Bristol Report written by Shona Buchanan

It was another big old Good Deed filled evening at GoodGym Bristol. A massive 53 runners came along to lend their hands to the good causes of Bristol. 53! You bed-der believe it. That is the Bristol record if you don't include medical students... A massive welcome and thank you to all of the new runners this evening, you were all absolutely brilliant!

Anyway, to the tales of an eve well spent. We got the bodies belonging to those helpful hands warmed up with some good old 'Shona says'. It's just like that fun game of Simon Says, but it involves burpees - so it's even more fun, right? Sofar, so good. The group then split into its three hefty sub-groups...

Got to Mala-go to the maze

Paul led a group out on a 6km run to Malago Maze, where we helped Jackie to do a massive amount of weeding to spruce the maze back into shape. The group did a fantastic job, and worked very hard to get a lot done in the time plus do the run there and back - brilliant work everyone!

It's goat to be perfect

Chris did a fabulous job of taking the second group to Bramble Hill Farm to also get stuck in with the weeds giving it a good prep-up for summer. These lucky do-gooders had an extra treat of getting to meet the goats and the pigs of the farm (and potentially spending more time getting the perfect selfie than weeding? (Not mentioning any names, Matt...)

The tables have turned

Meanwhile, the rest of the group went to help the British Heart Foundation team to set up their new store in the middle of Bristol. The team got stuck in with moving furniture, sorting books and pulling down window stickers (and managed to cajole some innocent bystanders into it too - thanks John the window-cleaner). The time flew by and we are looking forward to coming back for Part 2 in a couple of weeks' time.

After all that, everyone chair-ished a good sit down, and what better way to do it than with our June Monthly Eats at Bambalan. Flat breads and beer later, we'd sure forgotten about the squat pain. Thank you Clo for organising this!

To be honest, I've got to get a load off my chest - this run report may or may not have been written with the aim of including numerous furniture puns. Just in case they aren't quite good enough to notice, I have handily highlighted them so you can really appreciate that I am just sofa-nny.

Wandsworth Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)

What a great bunch of runners we had in Wandsworth last night. Not only did we have some lovely GG tourism from marathon man Graham and Tom, but we welcomed along Jake to the group. Give them a cheer, good people.

Well done to superstar Sophie who stormed round the running leg of the Blenheim Palace tri, and to Sally, who smashed her first ever Park Run at the weekend. More cheers, please.

This was our last run before the GoodGym Olympics on Saturday, and our final chance to fine tune our split times and track strategy. We had a quick chat about our flag - we're meeting tonight at the Work and Play Scrapstore at 6:45 before decamping to a pub nearby to create our masterpiece if you'd like to join us.

After a few damp dynamic stretches, thanks to the great British summer, we debated everybody's favorite sportsperson. Only one Mo Farah, but several Johnny Wilkinsons?! Tonight's task was at The Venue, a community space which hosts events to bring together local people, run by the lovely Hadas. It was a fairly short run there, but long enough to get us soaked. We dripped in, and divided up into teams to tackle a deep clean of the whole place. We sponged windows, scoured the kitchen, scrubbed the toilets, cleaned the outside area, washed the carpet, and gave the whole place the GG treatment. For which we were rewarded with watermelon, the perfect post-run snack.

Task done, we took ourselves outside to do a round of circuits which, after some very sketchy maths, featured burpee high fives, planks, back-to-back squats, sumo squats, sprints, high knee skipping, press ups, tricep dips and mountain climbers. It was a tough one but there was some high energy circuiting from Team Wandsworth. Well done everyone.

All that was left was to tackle that last pesky hill on the way home, and to stretch it out before having a drink or two at the bar to celebrate Jack's birthday. Talking of drinks, the monthly social for the whole of GoodGym will take place after the Olympics, at The Grafton at 6pm. See you there! In the meantime, why not sign up for next week's run here - we're going to be stuffing envelopes for the RSPCA!

Making Sheaf Valley Shine for Amphifest 2017

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

12 tenacious & triumphant runners ran 5km to help make Sheaf Valley shine in preparations for Amphifest 2017 this weekend.

Photobombed!

After a brief brief and a group photo with an extra honorary member in the background we took stock of numbers and had DASHING DAVE as our back marker for the night before heading off into the drizzle to meet LOVELY LINDA at the sparkling STEEL CITY STEPS who greeted us with grabbers and bags and told us all about Amphifest this coming weekend.

We split into two teams and for 45mins picked every bit of litter we could find totaling 12 bags! Great job everyone!

After dumping our bags we used the surrounding area of the park for some great fitness including:

  • Box Jumps up the Amphitheater

  • Stair Sprints up the Steel City Steps

  • Hill reps up the parks pathways

Everyone did a great job on the exercises putting in some great hard efforts which will pay dividends!

We took an alternative route back crossing GRAFFITI BRIDGE and finished with some stretching in front of our home of the SHOWROOM CINEMA

Extending our vocabulary...

Sticking around for a drink we extended our vocabulary, learning the definition of SNURGLING and reminiscing of the wonderful times of when THE ROCK was cooking and wanting all to smell his culinary delights.

Thanks so much to all who came out on the drizzly eve to help the local community prepare for this weekends festival!

Happy Running!

Tom :)
