Rock around the Clock

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

9 Westminster GoodGymers ran a storming 8k to Arc Atwood Primary School to move 100 bags of rocks off of the flat roof to allow the next stage of the memorial Garden to take shape.

A huge effort tonight, amazing job from everyone!!

Really rewarding task for an amazing project to remember the life of a student which was way too short.

Zipping 4km out North West with some blasphemous baked bean and crumpet chat along the way! We got to Arc Atwood Primary School.

With no time to waste we got going in a flash. Splitting the squad in two with half the group bringing the big bags of rocks down the stairs while with any number of carrying contraptions the bags were carried out to the front of the school for collection in the morning.

An amazing Pace was maintained getting all the bags down in record time before the final push saw us manage to clear the playground in the nick of time!!

A quick area number 6 picture gave us a chance for a lay down in the playground before an excellent riverside run back to base rounded off a quality GG evening!!

See you next week for some more Riverside action in Little Venice!

Cookery Class

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

10 Westminster GoodGymers ran 7k to help One Big family helping the homeless charity in Victoria.

Starting off on a very windy Wednesday on Oxford Street we glided South with a bit of a bounce in our steps as the pace was strong!

Hearing about amazing Half Marathon PB exploits up North and recovering injury rehabs we were were soon at the Ebury Estate at meet Mike and the team.

With the amazing new partnership with a local community Centre kitchen who are making hot food for the Wednesday Homeless food kitchen we were on sorting and moving duty. Bagging up 3 huge bags of blankets and bedding to be given out later in the evening to those that need it. Emptying a whole store to get to a Cooker then transporting it to a family in one of the blocks who was with a cooker. Delivering a book shelf to another family on the estate who had just received housing.

With all delivery’s made we had time for a powerful fitness session to engage our core, dominate our upper bodies and reinforce our lower body strength and conditioning!

With all that in the bag we darted back to base with a top session under our belts!

Next week we will be off to complete our Primary School memorial Garden efforts! Need loads of help with this one! Promise lighters bags and more tools! Be great to have you along!

We also need to do a picture in the theme of 6 for a GG picture collage. All ideas greatly received!!

Have a great week

Straighten up and fly(er) right!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

6 Westminster GoodGymers ran 7k to deliver 250 leaflets to promote Open Age charities creative writing workshop for the over 50’s.

Great to have you along this week for a step filled session in Pimlico!

Helping Open Age who run physical and creative activities for Westminster’s Over 50’s to combat inactivity and isolation.

This week we were promoting Open Age’s creative writing workshop and aimed to spread the word around the Southern portion of the borough.

After a strong 3k run we daisy chain style delivered to the houses on the street before entering the labyrinth of the local estate to in groups delivering to as many flats as we could reach!! Also dropping a few off in Community centre's before dashing back to base with a lot of steps and delivered leaflets complete!

Hope to see you next week for our trip to One Big Family Homeless Charity and the week after to complete the Primary School memorial Garden

Have a great week

From Dust to Dawn

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

7 Westminster GoodGymers ran 6k to help St Andrews Youth Club clear and dust 2 very cluttered storage areas!

Thanks for coming along on our trip to the a Westminster treasure the Oldest Youth Club in the World, St Andrews.

A pretty direct 2.5k route South weaving through the foot traffic of Central London. Where we met Adrian at the hive of youth action, St Andrews.

With a new area to tackle this visit we were had to remove, de clutter, re arrange and clear years of dust!

With space at a premium we got going with some great daisy chain team works to clear the two areas. With boxes, cabinets, light shades, flower arrangement holders, China cats, and 50 Easter baskets all taken out the area could be cleaned , swept and mopped!

Lots of dust and rubbish removed, the cleaning supplies re ordered and we were away!

Taking the longer loop back with a detour around St James’s Park we powered back to base notching up a top 6k of running and even time to nab a group picture in the New Balance photo booth!!

See you next time when we go to help Open Age Charity who provide social and physical activities for the over 50’s.

Have a great week

Joel
