Meet the trainer for GoodGym Swindon
Aloha! This weekend, under bright blue skies, Swindon became a tropical paradise 🏝️ and we had a lot of fun in the sun 🌞
It was a GoodGym takeover for Swindon's virtual parkrun and a Hawaii 5-0 theme gave the opportunity to escape winter and release those Hawaiian shirts and beachwear from the depths of the wardrobe.🩳👙 And the Swindon running community did not disappoint - with the brightness of the outfits matching the vibrancy and warmth of our running family.
Our fabulous team of virtual pacers, tailwalkers and marshalls supported 144 runners and walkers, with 15 people ringing the PB bell 🔔. 20 minute pacer Paul was quick off the mark in the most magnificent grass skirt. Alexandra was spot on with the 30 minute pacing, as were Cath and Annie in her pawsome outfit 🐶.
With the news of the roadmap for the return of parkrun, we hope that we'll be together again soon. Maybe for a celebration cake -meanwhile Ashleigh kindly offered virtual slices of a very real cake 🎂...it's the thought that counts?!
So who is fed up of the lockdown and keen to get fit(ter) before Easter 🐣 ? Well you'll be pleased to know that GoodGym are here to help, by inviting you to an informal virtual event - LEJOG! This is something I have never heard of before but the idea is that we walk, jog or run from Lands End 🏴 to John O'Groats 🏴 (that's 1084 miles in total) as a group by the end of March. So there's no pressure here - if we all do a little we will get a long way! And the more that sign up the better of course :-)

Walk, jog or run by yourself, with other members of your household OR with one other person from another household while social distancing.
Connect with Strava (if possible) and record your LEJOG miles on there.

GoodGym Swindon Virtual parkrun Takeover - From 6pm on Friday 26th February until 6pm on Sunday 28th February 2021
It's back! The GoodGym Swindon Takeover at the awesome Swindon Virtual parkrun. Thanks to our wonderful parkrun community here in Swindon, a FREE weekly virtual 5K parkrun is available to everyone and anyone. Check out the Swindon Community Running Facebook page for more information:

We have been asked to provide volunteers at the 50th virtual parkrun commencing Friday 26th February at 6pm. We are recruiting for the following positions:
Pacers - 20, 22, 25, 27, 30, 32, 35, 40 and 45 minutes
Run Report Writer
If you would like to do one of the roles above, please write a comment below which one. It would be great if we could try and fill all of these volunteer roles. Doubling up on pacing positions is fine!
And here are the rules:
1) Run solo or with one other person whilst maintaining social distancing.
2) Adhere to social distancing guidelines; stay at least 2 metres away from anyone outside of your household during your run
2) Do not run at an official parkrun location at 9am on a Saturday; doing so will lead to instant disqualification
3) If you do not feel well, do NOT run.
4) Tourists are welcome!
5) The run can be at any time from 6pm on Friday 26th February until 6pm on Sunday 28th February.
6) Upload your run to Strava and submit your result here!
8) Take a photo where possible and post on the GoodGym Swindon WhatsApp Group and the Swindon Community Running Facebook Page.

At GoodGym Swindon's Friday Night Virtual Social, we pondered how we could pay tribute and salute the late Captain Sir Tom Moore. Paul suggested a 100 mile relay and Stuart - that we pass the baton with our GoodGym shirts.
Captain Tom raised millions, hope and a sense of humanity through the pandemic and in his memory, GoodGym Swindon raised miles, smiles...and their shirts, and all was captured on film!
Jo made sure we were fit for parade with perfectly laundered shirts. With some words of encouragement and assurance that Tom-sorrow was another day and that we could all achieve our goals, Cath got the relay started from her treadmill. Then, shirts were thrown and miles were run in the streets and parks of Swindon. The relay successfully concluded with Samantha and her mysterious goodgym sweater?!
