Litter Picking in Haydon Wick - Part 2

Thu 27 Jan 18:00 pm
The Tawny Owl, Taw Hill, Swindon, SN25 1WR
To help clear up the streets and green spaces in Haydon Wick

We will be running approximately 1km in total to help with a litter picking task in and around Mouldon Hill Country Park as well as the surrounding streets. Litter picking equipment will be provided; just don't forget your head torch, gloves, hand sanitiser, antibacterial wipes and a face covering should you need one.

We will be meeting at 6pm just outside the Tawny Owl Pub*; just look out for us in the red and black GoodGym tops! After the task, we may be able to fit in a short exercise session before heading back to the Tawny Owl.

Please note: This Group Run is Walkable, meaning that there will be one group of Walkers leaving the Tawny Owl just after 6pm (led by a Task Force Member) and a second group of Runners leaving the Tawny Owl at around 6:10pm (led by a Run Leader). Please also be aware that GoodGym runs are suitable for runners of all abilities. All our runs are backmarked and we never leave anyone behind.

*Please look out for our Run Leader, Emma who will meet you all outside the Tawny Owl Pub.

Please note that for the time being, our Group Runs will start in various outdoor locations meaning that lockers, toilets and refreshment facilities may not be available before and after the Group Run. We hope that this will change in the future and that at some point soon we can return to a regular meeting point with facilities. For the meantime let's just enjoy meeting up again - we have a lot to catch up on 😊

Collecting Christmas Trees 🎄 for the Prospect Hospice - Day 2

Sun 9 Jan 08:00 am
Prospect Hospice , Moormead Road, Wroughton, SN4 9BY
To help raise vital funds for the Prospect Hospice

The Prospect have launched their first ever real Christmas Tree Collection service and have approached us to help out this weekend.

Supporters of the hospice will have already pre-booked for their tree to be collected and made a donation for this service. The collections will then take place from two ‘hub sites’ one of which is in Royal Wootton Bassett and the other in Wanborough on Saturday 8th January and Sunday 9th January.

Those that volunteer for this initiative will first meet at Prospect Hospice in Wroughton where they will receive a briefing from the fundraising team, route maps, a bacon roll and tea/coffee to set you up for the job. They will then move across to one of the two hub sites where the collection routes will have been mapped out.

Working in groups of 3 to 4 they will then set off following the planned routes, collecting the trees for collection and placing them into vans where once full they will return to the hub for chipping and recycling.

The length of time this task will take will depend on the number of trees that are booked in for collection and the number of volunteers that come forward, however they envisage to be finished by lunchtime on each of the days.

Please note: This task is walkable, but will require lifting of the trees and placing them into the vans. Whilst they are predominately looking for people who can do the walking and collecting element, they are also short of a couple of drivers.

Please help support Prospect Hospice with this new initiative as they desperately need to raise vital funds to provide this service to the local community.
