Six goodgymers met at the steps to tackle some weeding to help keep Colchester beautiful. Tiffany and Dan tackled the river edge with lots of support from Phil, Ben and Vanessa over-hauled the herb garden, Helen pulled out weeds along the path, and Pam was everywhere. We chatted with the neighbours in the cottages who were very grateful for our efforts, and we also said hello to the passing kayakers. It was a lovely evening to be out doing good in the town. Well done everyone!
Most people were able to make it to the right location for the mission ;) and so with litter pickers and bags we set off in two separate groups to clean up the areas around Castle Park. It was good to chat and catch up with GoodGymers old and new with a special mention for Magano who was joining us for her first GoodGym mission. There was discussion of work/life balance in the pandemic world, pets and obviously whether anyone had managed to get to the pub and take advantage of the recent changes to restrictions! Whilst it wasn't quite as messy as we feared it might be, there was evidence that some people who had been taking the chance to have a picnic in the park, hadn't cleaned up after themselves and we managed to fill three large bags of rubbish between us. As someone who lives in the area close I know I appreciate the park will be a little cleaner for the time-being, and hope others will be similarly pleased.
Help Keep Britain Tidy by gathering up some rubbish. Better for the wildlife, better for the environment, and where possible, we'll recycle what we find. This litter pick will sweep along the river between Leisure World and the bottom of East Hill. We can have up to 16 helpers, under current guidelines. We may split into two groups on the day. Bring your own gloves, bags will be provided.
This is a gardening task near the riverside. Bring gloves, and any tools if you have them - secateurs, trowel, etc. We are now meeting at the steps by the bridge, by the cottages on North Station Road, opposite the Riverside Hotel.
Dan just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Dan a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.
We had two separate groups planting bulbs in Colchester last night!
One group had a fantastic bulb planting sesh near the weir for Colchester in Bloom, accompanied by swans taking back the park for the evening.
The other group planted in some areas in the town centre. It was a chilly evening but lovely to see people after so long.
We look forward to seeing the fruits of our labour next Summer when the tulips bloom!
We were fortunate to have such a calm evening weather wise to meet up again.
People were so pleased to be back together again after such a long period of time .
GoodGym Colchester really spread the love tonight by being in various parts of Colchester.
There were members at the Bergholt Road Allotments,Vineyard Street Car Park,Crouch Street and Firstsite!!!
Lots of gardening ,tidying and litter picking was done to help improve the town.
The pictures say it all really.
Thank you one and all for attending.
Colchester GoodGym is back for sure.
