All The Single Tables, All The Single Tables...

Liverpool Report written by Char Binns

On a dark, dark night, somewhere in the North West of England, 9 brave runners covered 8km to help British Heart Foundation's electrical and furniture store.

Our noble nine put in a brilliant run last night, with some of the fastest clocked kilometers in GG Liverpool's history. We had a new task to visit, some 4km away from our Hope Street Hotel base. The whole team dug deep and the navigation was tip top (if I do say so myself!) so we make it there just after 7pm.

Greeted by store manager John and a nice warm indoor task, we were led through the British Heart Foundation furniture showroom and upstairs to a large and very full stockroom. Our task was to reorganise the room, moving mattresses then matching table and chairs together. While we are dreamy at shifting stuff quickly, the game of matching chairs to tables proved more time consuming. So we did our best to be as useful as possible in the short time we were there with the offer to return to finish the job ASAP.

Shout outs this week go to Karen for being a cheerful and reliable back-maker, and to Amy for braving the cold to return after numerous weeks away. Wear more layers Amy, we miss you! And of course to George for the title pun (again!).

With mattresses reorganised at the back of the room and having made a start on shifting the single tables and single chairs, we sadly had to leave. The run home, which was mostly downhill and had only a few traffic lights, was completed at GG Lpool record-breaking pace and I was super proud of the whole team.

Next week I'm still confirming things, due to a last minute change of plan. But rest-assured, you should sign-up to make the most of your Monday evening. Do good, get fit: SIGN-UP!

Until then, happy running, Char <3

How many good gym runners does it take to change a light bulb

Liverpool Report written by Sophie McClellan

On a cold, dark Monday evening, nine intrepid GoodGymmers, armed only with head torches, pen and paper set out into the night.

A 2km run took us to Everton Park where we were met by John from Friends of Everton Park. Our mission? To identify all of the broken lamp posts so that they can be fixed. (it turns out there were plenty to keep us occupied!)

Well done to Becky and Christina for covering the most ground and finding over thirty five lamp posts not working!

On the return journey we were treated to an excellent fitness session by our newly qualified run leader George

Special thanks go to Katie for coming up with the title for the run report!

Next week We will be headed to the bombed out church and will be welcoming back a rather jet lagged Char Hope to see as many people as possible! This is a perfect run for beginners! Sign up here

The fruits of our labour

Liverpool Report written by Char Binns

Our twinkling 12 helped out at Everton Park on a perfect Autumn evening.

After a last minute task cancellation, Friends of Everton Park stepped in to offer us another excellent task. At the end of a bright Autumn day we ran just over 2km to meet John, Ahmed and Ian who were ready with tools, water, gloves and freshly picked bunches of grapes. The task was to work in the orchard area of the park, clearing the ground around fruit trees.

As most of the team worked in the orchard, Becky and George went with John to collect buckets of compost. Bringing them back in the car, the team then carried the compost up numerous steps to the orchard ledge, spread it around the trunks of the trees.

Sadly there was a sting to the tale when a couple of wasps nests were found round the orchard meaning that we couldn't get as much work done as we'd have liked for fear of the team's safety.

Climbing the stairs to the viewing platform, the view from the park over the city never fails to impress. Tonight it was especially beautiful as the sun was setting. George led us in a high paced fitness session that was so much fun a group of local youth decided to join in. As we ran back to base it was almost dark outside (for the first time in GoodGym Liverpool's short history) reminding us that we're going to need head torches next week.

A big shout out to George for leading an ace fitness session in preparation for becoming a fully trained Run Leader. And a shout out to Katie too who was our trusty back marker AND who celebrated her 100th Parkrun this week - what a star!

Next week we'll be helping out at a really interesting task - the Quaker Burial Ground - which is normally closed to the public. We'll be bagging fallen leaves - so bring your gloves and your head torch and don't forget to sign-up.

See you next time <3
