Painting Walls at a Thames Reach Hostel

Sat 1 May 10:00 am
70-72 Acre Lane, London, SW2 5QN
Make the rooms nicer for residents

Thames Reach help out vulnerable people across London by providing advice and somewhere to stay.

This task is to paint a couple of the rooms. We'll (hopefully) have 6 people across the two rooms so there will be enough space for social distancing.

Meet outside at 10 and Kelly will provide all the equipment you'll need.

Please bring a mask and you may want to not wear your finest gear!

Brockwell Time Trial - APRIL

Sun 25 Apr 09:00 am
Brockwell Park, London, SE24 0PA
How much faster can you get?

Log a Brockwell Park loop and then see if you can beat it at a special timed session.

Here's how it works:

  • Jog to Brockwell (the Brixton Water Lane entrance) - use this as your warm up
  • Set a phone/watch timer going and see how fast you can do one anticlockwise loop of the park (It's about 1.8km).
  • Make a note of your time - stick it on this spreadsheet. Feel free to do as many of these as you like in preparation!
  • Meet at the Brixton Water Lane entrance at 9am on April 25th and try and beat your first time. I'll do the timing so you can just peg it.
  • See if you can beat it again in May?!

A couple of Strava segments to look out for:

GoodGym Lambeth Brockwell Bolt: should be right at the end of your loop - sprint finish duh.

Brockwell Park 1 lap North Gate entrance: Another way to find your time (but less accurate than using a timer probs).

v. important Covid guidelines - obviously when running round the park, keep your distance even if you have to cut a corner (you can take a wider angle on the next one 😉). When we do the proper shebang on April 25th, we can't hang around before and after for a chat (we'll have a nice long stretch/more exercises instead!).

Gardening @ Brixton Windmill

Tue 20 Apr 18:30 pm
Brixton Windmill, Blenheim Gardens, London, SW2 5EU
Preparing it for reopening to the public

Brixton Windmill's gardens have been well used by the public over the past year, so we're going to offer extra help to get it looking nice.

There will probably be a mix of tasks from weeding to planting to pruning and there may be cleaning jobs to do in the Windmill too!

Please bring gardening gloves and a mask 🧤🤿

Transport Greggs leftovers to a homeless charity

Mon 5 Apr 17:00 pm
Greggs, 4 Electric Avenue, London, SW9 8JX
Help put otherwise wasted food to good use 🥟

Bright Morning Star Prisons and Homeless Outreach help to rebuild, support and elevate the lives of the most vulnerable people on the street and at their Walk-In Centres. They provide basic and immediate physical and emotional help to the public, and provide a free counselling service.

We've been asked to help with transporting leftovers from Greggs, 4 Electric Avenue, Brixton to Chandler Community Hall, Lambeth Walk, SE11 6DU. Here's a map - it's a 4km run/ride.

Please arrive by 6pm - they will be closed after that! If you go in and say you're collecting food for Bright Morning Star Prison and Homeless Outreach, they should give you the leftovers. There may be quite a lot so just take what you can :)

🎒Please bring a backpack/panniers to transport the food (plastic bags might be useful too as the bags the pastries etc are in are greasy!).

🤿Please bring a mask to wear in the shop

We need 3 people to sign up to transport the food - you can either run or ride, together or separately. If there are any problems, please call Modesta from Bright Morning Star who will meet you on 07432 690877.

Any questions? Email me 👉 markgilyead@goodgym.org

Thank you 🙏 and hope it goes well!
