Wet, wet, wet (and a few more puddles)

Tue 28 Sep
Report written by Melanie Young

I feel it on my fingers I feel it on my toes Rain is all around me And so the (lack of) feeling grows

The Dame Emily Park Project may have decided it was too wet for litter-picking but that wasn't going to sop GoodGym Bristol from a bit of chat, a bit of exercise, a bit of litter-picking and a lot of feel-good sogginess.

Opting for a harbour loop walk and litter-pick rather than a Queen Square scavenger hunt, we set off to show the best of Bristol to visiting Ivo and Adam.

Every scrap was being collected, mini fitness sessions were used to keep the group together (and warm) when Russ mentioned it was barely raining.

Ten minutes later we were holding a quick re-think meeting under the shelter of a rowing club (tempted to borrow a boat to wear as a big hat for all of us) and six GoodGymmers opted to run back, with or without litter-pickers whilst another four kept walking. The rain got heavier and heavier until it was impossible to see what was a puddle and what was huge quantities of surface water to wade through.

Huge smug points to everyone who made it out, I hope you're all well on the way to being in snugly pyjamas!

Lunchtime plank - quick fix core strength

Strong core - why not!

Link to join: https://meet.google.com/ift-rczo-afi?authuser=0 I'm always looking for quick and easy ways to work on the core and the plank is a good way to get into it.

Core stability is important so why not try and start with trying out this plank session just before you go off for your lunch?

This will be a 5 min plank session, 30 seconds hold for each plank variation. No worries if that seems too as you can drop off at any point.

See you there here is the link to join https://meet.google.com/ift-rczo-afi?authuser=0

Dame Emily Feel Good - Helping is Just Kool

Tue 28 Sep 18:20 pm
Queen Square, Bristol, BS1 4LH
The park and Skate Park will be tidier/cleaner and generally more lovely

It's Tuesday so it's a group run, meeting at 6.20 in (and returning to) Queen Square. We’ll be leaving at 6.30

We’re heading to the street art/swimming baths/skateboarding/park combo that is Dame Emily Park, armed with gloves (please remember to bring your), a few litter pickers and a lot of bags - will the recycling out bag the rubbish? What will be the most interesting find?

In very exciting news, we can now use the lockers/loos/changing facilities at workout Harbourside before heading to Queen Square for 6.20 registration, chat and setting off for the park.

There may be a longer run option around the top of the harbour as well as a direct run, depending on how many lovely run leaders sign up 🙂

Water water everywhere

Tue 14 Sep
Report written by Emily Kitson

Last Tuesday evening, 7 Goodgymmers headed down to Alice park community garden to help out with some end of summer maintenance.

After a fairly dry summer, watering was a priority, so Holly set to work with a watering can, making sure all the plants had a good drink.

Meanwhile, Richard and Adam took on the task of setting up 2 new water butts, in preparation for the Autumn rainfall.

There was also a pile of woodchip leftover from our previous mission here, which needed to be moved up the garden to create a path. Emily M, Emily K and Dan shovelled it into wheelbarrows to transport it up to Max who raked it into a nice new path between raised beds.

As the sun set we were quickly running out of daylight, so we finished up with a bit of pruning and weeding to tidy up the flowerbeds, followed by a group photo in the dark!
