Welcome to GoodGym Croydon!
We're a friendly and sociable group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every week to get active and do a physical task to help charities, community organisations and projects in our area.
Come and join us on Tuesday 21 September 2021 for our weekly group task.
We meet at 6.45pm and start running/walk or cycle at 7.00. We will work hard on our task for 30 to 45 minutes, have a fun fitness session then we all run/walk or cycle back to the start venue by 8.30pm.
The Task:
Helping Unique Roots to prepare the raised beds at Harris Academy West Croydon
Please bring your own gardening gloves too!
Do be prepared for the weather!
The Run/walk/cycle: This week the distance is approximately 3km.
GoodGym is for everyone. We welcome runners/walkers and cyclist of all abilities. It is often possible to walk/cycle to some of the tasks if you would prefer.
When jogging we always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is.
The Essentials:
We meet at Solutions Health & Fitness at 6.45pm, a short walk from East Croydon Station. The entrance to Solutions is easy to miss on your first visit and is to the right of the Lansdowne Hotel entrance.
If you are coming straight from East Croydon Station you can reach Lansdowne Road more quickly by coming out the new side entrance from the bridge onto Dingwall Road. The entrance to Solutions is easy to miss on your first visit and is to the right of the Lansdowne Hotel entrance.
Find us in reception. We'll be the ones with red running kit on.
There's space to change, leave bags and toilets. Ladies to use changing room in the basement and gents there’s a changing room on the ground floor. We're not planning to do anything dangerous, but GoodGym takes no responsibility for your safety during group runs, you participate at your own risk. Participants accepts full responsibility for items stored at the start location & GoodGym will not be held liable for any losses / damages.
The lockers in the changing rooms need a padlock so please remember to bring one with you or you could share with a friend (there are some for hire at the main desk for 50p – padlocks that is not friends!).

A Tourist likes nothing better than exploring new areas and meeting new people, and that's what Abby has been doing. Abby has been to three different GoodGym areas now - nice!

Abby has forgone the usual weekend routine. Instead of lie-ins, roasts and strolls around the park Abby has dropped everything to run a GoodGym mission for someone who needed help. Respect

Lambeth
A leaf-ly morning spent
I helped Mr D clear his front garden, sweeping some leaves, weeding, and trimming some of the overgrown plants. Mr D happily advised about the different plants like figs and plum trees, and his cute dog, Cerb, was very excited to help out with the wedding!

Abby has helped keep other people motivated, Abby has noticed what others have done and cheered 10 people. We doff our caps to you Abby.

Back to St John's Meadow to sort the compost heap!

We're so pleased to be heading back to St John the Evangelist to help in the meadow. This is a lovely community garden alongside the church, with vegetable and fruit beds, beehives and a wonderful tangle of brambles (to dip into to keep your energy up!).
Our job this time is to get on top (literally!) of the compost heap. It will be a big help to the regular volunteers if we can get this turned over.
- Make your own way to St John the Evangelist for 6:30pm
- Wear or take something that covers your arms and legs, as there may be brambles/nettles
- Bring water, sun cream and bug spray!
- Please take direction from Helen, who will provide tools
If you don't want to do digging/heavy work, please say, there will be plenty to do and Helen can show you a task that is less intense. There is plenty of shade in the garden if you want to take a break, so please say if you need to sit for a while.
Enjoy!
