Welcome to GoodGym Croydon!
We're a friendly and sociable group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every week to get active and do a physical task to help charities, community organisations and projects in our area.
Come and join us on Tuesday 8 February 2022 for our weekly group task.
We meet at 6.45pm and start running/walk or cycle at 7.00. We will work hard on our task for 30 to 45 minutes, have a fun fitness session then we all run/walk or cycle back to the start venue by 8.30pm.
The Task:
We'll be heading over to the allotments with Unique Roots
The Run/walk/cycle:
GoodGym is for everyone. We welcome runners/walkers and cyclist of all abilities. It is often possible to walk/cycle to some of the tasks if you would prefer.
When jogging we always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is.
The Essentials:
We meet at Solutions Health & Fitness at 6.45pm, a short walk from East Croydon Station. The entrance to Solutions is easy to miss on your first visit and is to the right of the Lansdowne Hotel entrance.
If you are coming straight from East Croydon Station you can reach Lansdowne Road more quickly by coming out the new side entrance from the bridge onto Dingwall Road. The entrance to Solutions is easy to miss on your first visit and is to the right of the Lansdowne Hotel entrance.
Find us in reception. We'll be the ones with red running kit on.
There's space to change, leave bags and toilets. Ladies to use changing room in the basement and gents there’s a changing room on the ground floor. We're not planning to do anything dangerous, but GoodGym takes no responsibility for your safety during group runs, you participate at your own risk. Participants accepts full responsibility for items stored at the start location & GoodGym will not be held liable for any losses / damages.
The lockers in the changing rooms need a padlock so please remember to bring one with you or you could share with a friend (there are some for hire at the main desk for 50p – padlocks that is not friends!).

Grass!! Yes we mowed it
Last night 6 members ran to Valley Park to assist Unique Roots, tidy up the communal area around the Peppermint centre.
When we arrived Pam from Unique roots was already at the site unloading the tools from the boot of her car. It wasn't so long ago since we last visited the site, however due to the mixed weather nature seems to have taken over and reclaimed the area.
With a smile on their faces and a spring in their steps the group tackled the task at hand. Though small in numbers we made a great effort in mowing the grass, weeding the beds and trimming the rose bush that had grown out of control.
It wasn't just weeding and cutting grass, Pam also had some plants and veg to be planted which, Ingrid and Abby planted.
Before we knew it the time for us to down our tools had come and it was time for us to undertake that 3.5km run back to solutions.
Next week, we'll be going to Wandle Park, to assist friend of Wandle Park, fancy joining us? Sign up here.

Help to tidy the garden for Mr M

Age UK Croydon has asked us to help Mr M with his garden. He needs help to tidy the back garden area - some litter and debris from items that were recently removed. (Not heavy items). The back garden, which is concreted over, is accessible via the property. He would also like help to tidy the front garden (12 foot x 3 foot). A male (or someone who identifies as male) volunteer is preferred.

Insane in the membrane
Last night 8 members of Goodgym Croydon attended Harris Academy in West Croydon to assist Unique Roots.
Before commencing on our run we had a vigorous warm up of jogging on the spot, high knees, squats and lunges to name but a few, to make sure that we were prepared for this week's task . Our run to the site was a short one we ran just over half a mile which meant that we had a lot of time to complete the task.
Tuesday 21st was a date we all had set in our minds as we knew it was the day after Pam's birthday and we have been looking forward to celebrating with her, not just because we were promised cake, but because she is always so smiley and bubbly.
Before we got to the birthday festivities we had some weeding to do, we then covered all of the beds in weed membrane to prepare them for next week's forest school activities. Each bed will be themed to represent the houses of the school. Pam mentioned that before planting commences they will be undertaking soil samples to check which plants or crops will thrive in that environment. The aim of this school project is to ensure the children know where their food is coming from and the process that goes in to growing produce before it hits the supermarket shelves. Pam wants to ensure that the children enjoy this activity and will be encouraging them to choose what to plant in each bed.
We managed to complete our task within time and pack away the tools, then it was time for singing and cake. I wish I could tell you how the cake tastes but unfortunately I left it in the office!
