One of the most common Good Gym missions seems to be moving furniture for the arrival of an hospital bed. Normally it’s quite comforting knowing that completing such mission makes a massive difference to the person being discharged, however this mornings mission was a bit different. Myself and Shelomoh (first misspion) met the CPN at the address of Mr D who is currently in hospital and instead of being transferred to an hospice for palliative care he has opted to be discharged home for his final days/months in familiar surroundings. Having being told why we were there, we couldn’t help feeling a bit saddened, we set about clearing and creating space in adjacent room for us to transfer the furniture. As we began making space and lifting various bits of equipment we began to get a feel for the type of person Mr D was. We could tell he was deeply into his music and lighting almost everywhere we turned there was a bit of kit. It was like taking a trip down memory lane (I’m an 80s child) there were vinyls, old cassette players, speakers and disco lightings. As we moved them carefully not wanting to drop or damage such precious pieces from the past that deserved to be on an exhibition. We managed to clear the room and create space for the hospital bed while ensuring that what we assumed to be one Mr D’s pride and joy his cabinet with his separates (tuner, turntable, Amps, Equaliser and tape deck) remained in the room where he would be able to play a few tunes while reminiscing about the good time he had when he played certain songs. With the mission completed we said our farewell to the CPN who had decided to stay back and do a bit of hoovering before continuing with her day.

****This year the NHS celebrates it’s 70th birthday and while we sometimes hear bad things about the NHS here was someone going over and beyond what was expected of her. Debbie keep doing what you do it was a pleasure meeting you and working with you.
