Why do doors in Sweden open outwards?

Because, as it turns out, they keep bitter cold, sleet etc. outside, give a sense of space and offer safety when escaping in case of fire.

This was just one of the things that Ms B and I wondered about in our chat today. She had noticed that a few years ago while watching a lot of Scandi-Noir films and wanted me to check on my phone.
