Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
For today's mission, Birchlyn and I went to Mr and Mrs S's house to move a box divan double bed (& a couple of mattresses) up some stairs.
It was Birchlyn's first mission and so I'd brought along some Kinder eggs to celebrate (because nothing says "Wooo! First mission!!!" more than a Kinder surprise).
[Strictly(!) speaking, this mission was supposed to happen yesterday (Wednesday), but a last-minute work issue cropped up. As it takes two to tango (or even to move a box-divan up some steps), we rearranged the mission for today (Thursday).]
On arrival, Mr S ushered us into the reception room in which the bed was located, before showing us the room upstairs to which everything was to be moved. Moving everything was pretty straightforward, and we were over and done with within 30 minutes. The space made by moving the divan is intended for a hospital bed for Mrs S, who is shortly to be released from hospital. This should make life a lot easier for them both; currently Mr S has to go to the hospital several times a day for Mrs S's dialysis.
On taking our leave of Mr S, we stayed to chat with him for a few minutes. He had some amazing anecdotes, my favourite being about the time he worked on a ship carrying some gold bullion. Some of the crew actually managed to break in and steal some! I was almost in physical pain as I waited to deliver a one "liner" about it being a real-life Ocean's 11.
We also met Mr S's dog, a beautiful sausage mix with a vestibular disorder that they believed he would at least partly grow out of. He was so friendly, I'm afraid I may have tuned out of the human conversation a little. I can't find it in myself to regret this.
Mission completed, Birchlyn and I said goodbye and went our separate ways (until next time! :D) Congrats again on completing your first mission! 😄
