Brahma was away on holiday so I had the pleasure of taking my Islington run leader skills over to Newham this week.

We started off by welcoming Tori to her first GoodGym group run. Welcome to GoodGym Tori! We also gave Sharon and Kevin a round of applause for running the Newham 10km on Sunday. Sharon will also be running her first half marathon along with Kevin at the Bath Two Tunnels race this Sunday.

It was a hot night so luckily the run to our task at Mobile Garden City was an easy and scenic 2km through Olympic Park. Sharon and Alice were kind enough to backmark and we arrived at the garden gates in no time.

There we met Sean who told us all about Mobile Garden City. It's a community garden built on movable pallets so the whole garden can be transported to beautify temporarily bare construction sites. They also have free workshops and activities and areas for people to grow their own food. The garden will stay at this location until October 2017.

We had two tasks for the evening, watering and composting. Our main task was to water the plants with rain water collected in the basins. We ended up impressing Sean with our speedy watering skills and we exceeding the amount he had planned for us to do. We ended up using up all the water in the basin and the plants were very happy. Great effort everyone!

A smaller group had the less glamorous but equally important task of breaking down large items in the compost with spades and clippers. This group of fearless souls braved the giant spiders and small child-sized gloves and made considerable progress on the compost.

After we finished our tasks Sean rewarded us with a taste of one of the edible flowers. We all agreed it tasted like nothing but it was a very pretty nothing.

Well done everyone. Sean and Mobile Garden City were very happy with your work today. Thanks for having me and being such a lovely bunch of runners!

Don't forget Thursday is monthly drinks at Peckham Springs from 6:30pm.

Brahma will be back for next week's task at Cody Dock
