4 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.

On Saturday, four GoodGymers headed to Catherine's back garden, which was in need of weeding. We're talking waist-high weeds, here, with occasional foxgloves in between. The whole lot needed clearing, as Catherine was unable to use her back garden because of the overgrowth. As we got stuck in, most of us were initially affected by some kind of pollen-cough-reaction, but our superior GoodGym immune systems soon beat that off and in little over an hour we had cleared the ground of strangle weed, pulled up loads of shallow rooted weeds, dug out a few more stubborn roots, and started bagging it all up & moving it to the garden waste point for collection. Within two hours the whole scene was cleared, giving Catherine a lot of space she previously could not use when it was dominated by weeds. The ground is now fully prepared for new plants, the little pathway has been cleared & cleaned, and Catherine is able to use her back garden again, which is a lovely space. Job done, and four muddy GoodGymer's run back off their separate ways - one from Camden, one from Lambeth, one from Tower Hamlets & one from Hackney, it's always a lovely thing to unite with fellow members from other groups in completing these mission runs. I hope Catherine can now enjoy her garden for the rest of the summer, and beyond!

Andreana

On Saturday morning Andreana, Beth and Patrick met Kalyani at her coach's house to help clear the garden. When we arrived it was a sea of waist high weeds, with the occasion foxglove thrown in here and there, and our task was too pull everything out. The majority of it came out pretty easily but some of the bigger stuff was a bit more stubborn. Most of it was no match for Patrick but the fork came off worse in one particular battle, he clearly doesn't know his own strength! With everything bagged up all that was left to do was get the bags to the bin. Rather than take them through the house we opted to take them through the back gate but, unable to unlock it, that wasn't an option. With Patrick and Andreana on the other side though we passed all the bags over, gave the path another quick sweep and were on our way.
