Having heard that UK Help for Ukraine had had to reduce its opening hours for want of volunteers (and having been meaning to go for months), I decided to catch a train to Banbury and help out with a few hours of sorting donations.

UK Help for Ukraine was set up in Banbury the day after Russia invaded Ukraine last year, with the aim of sending aid to those affected by the war and later of supporting refugees who had come to live in Oxfordshire.

Over a year later, they are still sending regular aid transports to Poland and Ukraine and supplying clothes, toiletries, books, toys, and household goods to local Ukrainians and others in need (asylum seekers, homeless people) from their base in Banbury's old Debenhams store. There is also a community centre where Ukrainians can meet and take English lessons.

Their logistical operation is amazing and their efforts nothing short of heroic!
