I called Mrs J on Tuesday afternoon, she was expecting my call. ‘Hello Gina, How are you...” ‘Just fine Mrs J. Are you well?’ .... twenty pleasant minutes later I had extracted the 9 item shopping list.... and it occurred to me that what we are doing is much more than just bringing food. So many people have lost their normal routines and are isolated not just from the virus, but from all the things they value.... The shop was effortless and this week I also collected Mrs J’s prescription from her pharmacy when I eventually found it. I dropped Mrs J’s items off and had another chat with her. I must be accepted now as her dog no longer barks and growls when I call. I headed over to dads and found myself doing another good deed en route as I noticed an elderly man staggering about the street. He had managed to grab hold of a lamppost but quickly slid down to the ground as I happened to be driving by. I desperately hoped there was no blood!! As luck would have it there was no traffic behind me so I slammed my brakes and hurtled out of my car to attend the fallen man. Social distancing not adhered to (not possible with a man down) I, along with another passer by, assisted the man to his feet and the passer by departed. Not satisfied with the unfolding situation I wasn’t happy to leave the poor man, he was breathless and very disorientated – long story short he ended up in an ambulance and I went on to deliver my Dads weekly supplies. How many good deeds can one cope with in a day :-)
