9 runners sped 5km to Kids Inspire in Melbourne
After a little bit of a run around to try and find a task for this week, our old friends at Kids Inspire had some work that needed doing, the only problem being they didn't have any tools! So after speaking with the legendary Ken and Fay, along with my own barely used gardening tools and dropping them off at the venue, we were set to go with a task! The guys at Kids Inspire have to be out of their premises at the end of the year (we really hope you find a new one soon!) so have some gardening that needed our amateur skills.
We set off from the usual Mildmay Gym slightly later than usual as I made us pose showing off Laurie in her snazzy new 100 good deeds tshirt! Special shout-out to Rachel for hitting 50 coach runs, stunning stuff from the both of you. We ran up towards Broomfield, then through Melbourne to get there. With the way there coming out as just shy of 2km and a handy little green patch of grass, James G led the group on a quick diversion. Heading to Kids Inspire we unloaded and assessed what we needed to do. The planters are going to come with them when they move, so they needed emptying of compost and plants. Joseph got to work taking down the bamboo sticks, while the rest of us dug it out. We lost Joel to the model railway club next door, he finally came back clutching flyers with a glint in his eye. In his defence, they were amazing trains. Adam started to build compost sandcastles in the dumping area, James G posed with his vegetables out, and we decided this was the signal to return to base.
After saying our goodbyes, but only for 2 weeks before we come back to finish what we started, we set off. Catherine veered off to go home and the rest of us headed to Broomfield Avenues to work on our sprints! James C didn't look happy, still feeling the after effects of hitting up Bassment at the weekend but nobly joined in. We reconvened at ARU and stretched. We have the social at The Works this Friday, can't wait to eat my body weight in ice cream. We also chatted about potential Halloween plans, if anyone knows a task we could do, please let me know via davidc@goodgym.org
Happy running and see you next week where I will no doubt be extra plump from my ice cream indulgence!
