7 super runners ran 4km to tidy up at the Shooters Hill School of Arts!

The weather looked pretty miserable when I looked out the window at 9.30am but just as I was getting my trainers on, the sun came out and it turned out to be a beautiful morning!

Decent turn out!

We had quite a good turn out which I was delighted about! The last starter session, we were a little thin on the ground so it was great seeing a few more faces this time round! We welcomed two completely new GoodGymmers to the group, Haley & Rachel. Ben and Suzanne are pretty regular these days. Nathalie had come on the previous starter session and Muinat came along to my Fitness For All session on Thursday! What a group!

We had a slow jog down to the river where we did a proper warm up. A few high knees, star jumps, walking lunges and side steps and jackets were coming off so I think everyone was getting warm!

We set off down the river along the Thames Path and 2km later, we arrived at the school! We were greeted by the lovely Mary who showed us inside the school and to the outside area which we were to be tidying up. Unfortunately, they have had people breaking in and dumping rubbish on the premises which is what we were cleaning up! Mary brought us out some tools and lots of bin bags and everyone got to work!

Ben went straight for the lumberjack job whilst Rachel took to the leaves and the rest of the gang started tidying up the rubbish.

What even is that!?

So many weird things were in that rubbish pile. A car seat. A car battery. DVDs. A computer keyboard. SO RANDOM. The most useful of them being a huge green bag which we ended up using as a giant bin liner! Perfect!

After 30 minutes the place was totally transformed. Luckily Ben had reminded me to take a before photo so we can really see the transformation, because it looked spectacular once we had finished with it!

We took a few group photos, had a sip of very fancy orange water that was in the super cute cafe and then we were on our way.

We ran back the same way we came and the sun was still shining! A little cooldown stretch over at the Woolwich square in front of the huge TV and we called it a day!

Amazing job everyone! Thanks so much for coming. You really made a huge difference! That would have taken them ages to do that themselves and hopefully the perpetrators will stop dumping rubbish once they see how tidy it now is! Hopefully see you at a group run in Greenwich soon! The next one is here
