Let's have a Recap

Last night 9 runners ran 9km in overall to Tabard Allotments in Southwark. This communty garden is run by Tabard Growers, a local group of volunteers who work to transform disused areas within housing into green spaces. Their work this year has even been recognised by the mayor!

With a smaller group of regulars we quickly set off as the temperature dropped. One km in we stopped for some fast feet drills and squat jumps. Arriving in good time we met Peter, Gilles & Winston who showed us the tools and route for the evenings tasks - shoveling soil and spreading manure! The first team armed with shovels, picked out roots and got to the bottom of the soil sacks we first started working on last month. The 2nd took wheelbarrows and hurriedly transported 15 sacks of rotted manure to the nearby Pilgrims house, spreading it onto the flower beds.

it came as no surprise to find out the manure had come from Surrey Docks farm where our GoodGym members had shoveled it fresh from the farm floor last month! Thus completing the process from start to finish!

FACT OF THE DAY - Due to the relatively lower level of proteins in grasses eaten by herbivores, cattle manure has a milder smell than the dung of carnivores. (For example, elephant dung is practically odorless).

After 30mins of speedy work our task was complete with plenty of muscles used! We completed our run back whilst enjoying a good chat and stretched out at Old Spike.

Next week is our final week of 2019 Join us for a 8km run overall to Crisis Elephant & Castle working with a local charity to help sort out their donations and tidy up stock. Followed by the Southwark Xmas Social! Fancy dress encouraged!

Well done team. See you next week!
