Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Last night, GoodGym was asked to check out a number of reports of local problems, to see which had been fixed and which were still in need of attention. Our 5 different destinations took us on a 7.9k tour through the Isle of Dogs, during which we also managed to include some interval training and some chasing down of about 11 runners to hand them GoodGym stickers. The results of our findings were as follows: The pothole on Preston Road (on the northbound exit of the roundabout where Preston Road meets Manchester Road) is still present and looks pretty bad (estimates vary from 3' by 18" and 5" deep, to 1m by 0.5m and half a shoe deep). The phone box outside the exchange tower is looking tidy despite having no door and missing some glass. No broken glass is present. The phone itself is not working. In Francis Close, there are a number of lights not working. The lights outside No.s 2 and 18 are out, and the light on the RHS of the passageway leading west from the carpark is out too. Our next aim was to check the waterside street lights near the Thames Clipper Pier which are indeed not working. We also spotted a good few other lights that weren't working including C01, C03, C5 and C12. Also No 03 on Glenaffric Avenue and B6 to B9 along the river path. Interestingly, lights by Torres Square and 1 Mast House Terrace were off too, and a Belisha beacon is not lighting by Michigan House. There are 4 lights out by Old Bellgate Wharf and 2 on Arnon Wharf. Here is an example picture from our run, of a light creating insufficient lumens: Our final quick check was an overhanging tree on the river path near Mast House Terrace. There are a few branches which reach down to under 6 feet from the floor and could be dangerous to cyclists or quite tall people. If nearby residents have loppers we could borrow, GoodGym would enjoy the jog down to clip the tree back. Mission Complete. Communication ends.
