This week’s task involved gardening and a little rugby coach ‘card game’ training. So expect a whole pack of puns. The venue was Old Alleynians. One of London’s finest rugby clubs. Three of us ran at a gentle pace from old spike roastery in Peckham rye to dulwich. Just to get our hearts going. There, we meet Southwark task king Sam, and host Ian. When he suggested we complete a whole series of randomised squats, sit ups, planks and so on based on repetitions with reps based on a pack of cards, we thought he must be a joker. About half an hour of Kenny Rogers themed HIIT later we were almost ready to jack in fitness altogether. The resistance band run was literally the ace up his sleeve for punishment. And so, we moved on to the main event. Clearing weeds from an entrance area. We all got busy with the shears and rakes, Ian leading the charge. Paulin and Hayley insisted on dragging the huge bags of waste across two rugby pitches. Like composting queens. Then it was a gentle 3k run back to Peckham rye common for Hayley’s yoga influenced warm down. I was even persuaded to run a further 2k home. More of a shuffle by that stage. Stamina? We’ve got it in spades. See you next task, Goodgymmers. You’re all absolute diamonds.
