Escaping the rat race, this evening a pack of GoodGym-ers went to help Mrs L load up some boxes in advance of her move into sheltered accommodation.

Unfortunately, we heard during the day that Mrs L was readmitted to hospital last night. However, as the moving van is scheduled for tomorrow, Ernie, Sarah and I cracked on with the packing under the direction of Mrs L's daughters (we were more than happy to do it their way).

Luckily, our remit for today's packing task was strictly limited to the kitchen and we had ten brand spanking new flat pack boxes with which to do it (a true luxury). Mrs L's daughters were also incredibly organised and had placed a large number of items to be boxed into bags. Our task for the evening was to fit those bagged items into the boxes, and to also box up the contents of a cutlery drawer and a couple of cupboards worth of tins (discarding those tins that were out of date).

Although there was some brief confusion about exactly what food should be packed (and let's just say that's life), overall the task went smoothly.

Ernie and Sarah started off the task by building some of the boxes while I took a couple of pictures.

Boxes assembled, we started loading them up. Aside from the usual plethora of unknowable kitchen contraptions and some unopened packets of knives, the thing that struck us the most was a tin of mackerel that looked to have expired in 2008! I can only imagine how unpleasant it would be if that mack were to return 🤢 After duly taking a photo to commemorate the occasion, we consigned it to the bottom of the discard pile and hopefully to history.

With the task over and done with in less than an hour, we took a couple of pictures and said our goodbyes, wishing the daughters a smooth move tomorrow. Here's hoping it goes well for them! 😄🍀
