On a cold and snowy evening in Barnsely, a small yet deadly team of Good Gym elite took to the hills in the pursuit of Good. Our not-so-secret mission was to infiltrate the heart of Kendray and slay the bushes of a residential care centre, Lavender Court. We embarked on a 4km expedition over "underlating" terrain where we spied our target about 30 minutes later.

Our stealthy arrival (or not - panting and cheering!) was met by STALWART STUART and SUPER SYLVIA who gratefully welcomed us with drinks and more tools than our crack team of four we could have hoped for. We set about our mission straight away with forks and spades working to clear the bushes in the garden to make way for a vegetable patch - you could say we were getting to the ROOT of the problem!

The ferocious Feeney sisters got stuck in hacking and yanking the bushes up, taking no prisoners in their attempts to clear the garden! Grace showed us her inner lioness by roaring with effort with one particularly stubborn bush; her time and energy paid off when she triumphantly dragged the bush from the soil claiming victory. Dedicated Daniel showed his true resolve dragging bushes out left, right and centre. Even Sylvia got stuck in to help with one of the more unyielding shrubs. After half an hour of serious upper body workout, there was just one little bush left where we were working - definitely an opportunity to go back and hopefully help plant some of the vegetables

Lavender Court has the shiniest wooden floors you have ever seen, so we were careful to brush off our trainers before heading back through and saying goodbye to Stuart, Sylvia and the residents. Having felt like we'd already had our workout, the team began to head back to basecamp in what can only be described as arctic conditions.

The return trip was a tough one, with significantly challenging terrain. The team showed their grit and determination with every single member making it up the hill. A special shout out needs to go to Mairead who ran further and harder than ever before and handled it like the boss she is! The session finished up with a long stretching session which will hopefully hold back some of the aches and pains our hard work will no doubt cause.

Good job team GGBarnsley!
