Mr R suffers from respiratory issues. He has just stopped wearing a brace to keep him upright and his chest open but his sofa is so slouchy and comfy that when he sits on it he sinks in and all the good work is undone. As we arrived he was sitting backwards on a chair (first aiders will recognise this as the recommended position to enable good respiration) but it would be much more suitable for his hospital bed to be brought in to the sitting room instead. So, we set about removing the cushions and maneuvering the sofa out the door, round the corner, into the lift and out to the bins for collection. By the time we returned, Mr R had convinced his teenage son to help us with the next step - a classic Goodgym style shifting of cramped furniture a little at a time to ease something out of a narrow doorway without disturbing too many other things. Unfortunately we disturbed a great many other things and all to no purpose as the bed really wasn't going to make the move in its current state and needed to have the headboards unscrewed. Having taken the plunge the rest ran much more smoothly, the bed was moved and reassembled in its new location and we all learned a lot about the mechanics of hospital equipment. Mr R's son good-naturedly said he didn't mind the mess at all and wanted to spend some time rearranging the bedroom himself, and even thought he might like to join Goodgym and help other people once he turned 18. There's hope for the underrated youth.
