This week’s lockdown fitness challenge was a weekend-long team distance challenge inspired by our previous team challenge courtesy of Rachel. 8 GoodGym runners were split into two teams with the goal being to log as much distance as you could over the weekend. The team with the biggest distance acheived being declared winners (cycling distances were divided by 4 to keep it fair).

We welcomed a tourist to our weekly challenge with Judy joining us from GoodGym Portsmouth, thanks for getting involved, you’re welcome back anytime! Judy was placed into team ‘Facemask’ along with Russell D, Laurie and David whilst Andy, Rachel, Jenny and myself were put in team ‘Hand-Sanitiser’.

And off we went with people logging their activities on Strava and me struggling to keep up with it all. Rachel was first to add some distance logging a 6km run on the Saturday morning, Andy followed shortly with a 6.5km run, Judy with a 5km run and Jenny with a 4km walk. By lunchtime team Hand-Sanitiser were way out in-front. However by the end of the day everyone apart from the two Russell’s had got some distance on the board and there was only 0.66km between the two teams!! Team Hand-Sanitiser were just slightly in the lead with 30.51km logged to team Facemask’s 29.85km. I think this was a great reflection on the wonderful job I did of sorting out incredibly even teams (yes I’m patting myself on the back) and setting up a frantic Sunday.

Sunday came and saw more activities being logged with people braving the cold and snowy conditions. Russell D added an impressive 13km for his team despite having not gone for a run for many weeks. I myself, being injured, not able to run and having a rather busy weekend, left my contribution till late on the Sunday, hoping to sneak my team to victory. I thought I might have done enough, going out for a walk at 8:15pm. Surely no one would be crazy enough to go out after that. Well David was clearly incensed at my ‘cheating’ behaviour and showed just how competitive he is, going out for an even later walk along with Laurie which was just enough to pull their team to a late victory with team Facemask totalling 65.10km to team Hand-Sanitiser's 60.37km. Well done team Faskmask and congratulations Laurie, David, Russell D and Judy!!

A special shoutout has to go to Andy who logged the most distance of any of us with a total of 26.11km logged over the weekend. Well done Andy, sorry I let you and the team down.

Next week’s challenge is an elevation challenge which you can find out more about and sign up for here.

Thank you for having me! It certainly motivated me to keep walking in yesterday's rain and sleet!
