Snails and stones may break my bones… 🐌

No broken bones on our gardening Mission today gladly (in spite of Paul’s presence) but BLIMEY were there a lot of snails, and stones, and bricks, and weeds, and litter; and all the other things that make-up a GG gardening Mission.

Bright and early (in fact before our host was out of bed) we met in Balham under mercifully clear skies, and since there was a lot to do, got stuck straight in…

First of all, Paul laid waste to a particularly verdant patch of weeds, whilst I raked and forked my way through the rubble and weeds on the other side of the garden. Paul discovered that if you stand still too long out there, the snails start crawling up your foot, and yet more snails crawl up those snails. 🐌 Eek!

Following the weeding, Paul made a capital job of clearing the garden path, (you couldn’t even see it was there when we arrived) and now the length of the garden is accessible should anyone what to do some planting, or just survey what we did today.

After dragging thought the soil with a fork and rake for most of the time we were there, I left the rocks, stones, broken paving stones and bricks all in a single pile. Now they’re not providing cover for weeds and snails, and the soil is looking much more presentable.

It’s hard to tell how many bags we filled as there were plenty there when we arrived (perhaps from a previous GG Mission?) and some areas of the garden we didn’t even touch today, but making a thorough job of the areas we did do has broken the back of it, and has shown there’s real potential there.
