This evening 18 GoodGym runners ran to Severn Primary School… Keep reading to find out about Ewan the dog, what happened in the fitness part of the session and who almost painted their face!

Runners all arrived to Yr Hen Lyfrgell ready for the evenings run. Everyone was keen to get going so as soon as the time hit 6.30pm we headed outside for our headcount and tonight we also stated our favourite drink. Ben started with Espresso Martini and it went downhill from there, with drinks ranging from gin to prosecco, Emyr was the only runner who appreciated the simplicity and taste of water, water being his favourite drink – I hope nobody had drunk any of their favourite drinks before tonight’s run other than Emyr! A big welcome to Gweni who was running with GoodGym for her first time tonight… She specified she liked a cold cider so she is definitely going to fit right in! Gweni was introduced to GoodGym by Lorena RED LACE ALERT... Lorena will be presented with her red lace next week! Also, well done Keira who did her first parkrun on the weekend – Wooo Clap clap clap, and also to Rachel and Jess who parkrunned too! And well done to Lisa, Darren, Mikey and Ellen all of whom ran missions on the weekend - You are AMAZING! Amy has also started coach running too - You're inspirational and it's lovely to hear how much you are enjoying it already.

Then it was time to embark on our evening run! We ran to Bute Park and regrouped by Pettigrew Tea rooms ready for our fitness exercise - Excitement was evident on faces. Our fitness exercise consisted of running 7 minutes in one directions and then turn and run 7 minutes back… so in exactly 14 minutes after setting off we would be back where we started. Well done everyone who took part in the fitness exercise, you did fantastic! It was hard in the heat too!

We then continued our run to Severn Primary School… stopping at the traffic lights until it was safe to cross. Some of us tried to precariously balance our butts on the wall without the assistance of our hands and legs = a great core body workout which nearly led to few people falling into a hedge... Jo and Emyr and probably a few others!

Welcome GoodGym to Severn Primary School

Bev welcomed us the school, helped by her tennis ball obsessed adorable dog. She told us all about the school and then we couldn’t wait to get stuck in and help out with all the tasks they had for us… there was LOADS for us to do… Tasks included:

  • Diggers and soil turners – Emma, Charlotte, Welsh Dave and Rachel
  • Plantation bed painters – Lucy, Ffion and Keira
  • Shed painters – Ellen, Mikey, and Jo
  • Platform movers and painters – Darren and Emyr
  • Laying soil in tyres team – Emma, Tanya and Amy
  • Fence painters – Lorena and Gweni
  • Rock transporter - He who must not be named!

The shed painters were, true to form, painting the MASSIVE shed that about 10 of us moved the last time we ran to the school. The laying soil in tyres team were speedily 'getting the job done' and were laying soil into many tyres at rapid pace. The fence painters gracefully painted some small fencing, just like Mr Miyagi encouraged Daniel son in Karate kit. No clue what I am chirping on about? Click here Oh, and it was Lucy who almost painted her face - No idea why?!? Darren needs to have a photo of the mud kitchen on our next visit - He wants to create his own, however I think he will gift it rather than use it himself!

It was great we were able to help out the staff with these tasks; the staff explained to us that sometimes over time the upkeep of the outdoor equipment gets neglected as there isn’t the capacity to keep it in a like new state – Now they know about GoodGym however this will change!

After 35 minutes of helping out it was time to run back home We bid our farewells to the lovely staff and the dog at Severn Primary who thanked us again for our hard efforts… well the dog didn’t, he just wanted the ball.

After a speedy run back to Yr Hen Lyfrgell it was time for our warm down and then drinks at the Glassworks. There was also a wonderful selection of vegan, vegan-ish and vegan-not cakes that everyone helped themselves to… mmmmmm they were good!

So that is all for this weeks folks.

Good luck to Ben who will be taking part in Endure 24, Emma and Lucy who are both signed up to do missions and everyone who will be parkrunning.
