Report written by James Smith
Tonight we set off as it was just starting to go dark, which didn't bode well for what was to come. After running a long way uphill James realised that he had taken the wrong exit from the roundabout due to too much focus on the chatting and not enough on the mapping, so we were not where we wanted to be at all! Following a bit of backtracking down the hill and a bit of Rosie checking directions we eventually made it to the park. We then had to track down Anne, Pat and Zak near Joseph Locke's statue. Better late than never!
After new introductions had been made, we got a briefing of what was to be done. Trimming both sides of a hedge and levelling off the top was first on the agenda. Rosie started from one end and James from the other, hedging our bets and meeting in the middle. There were many spikes to avoid which kept us on our toes. When this was done, we bagged up our cuttings and headed down to the flower bed to join the rest of the crew. Here we were trimming the encroaching edge of the grass to the border of the bed and pulling up any rogue weeds. We then bagged up all of this and took it into the deep bushes to be composted for the underlying soil.
Our good seed for the day done, we then all walked back to the shed to put the tools away before Anne showed us up to the multigym equipment. We did a workout of 20 reps on each bit of equipment, of which there were about 6/7, so we got a good session in! After this it was just a nice, gentle jog back down the hill to Glasshouse, where we stretched off. Quite a bit of distance was acheieved on top of our volunteering and workout tonight... 7km!!
