It was a hot one this morning as GoodGym members from Hounslow, Richmond and Hammersmith got together in Gunnersbury Park, to pick up the work of slaying the brambles. Big welcome to Chris who joined for her first Community Mission!

We hot footed it back to carry on the work that previous groups had started earlier in the week, hacking at the lower branches (to avoid any unsuspecting birds nesting in the higher parts).

The sun was beating down as we made our way around the base of the tree. We filled all the bags after a couple of hours hacking, chopping and raking. Not before we'd tasted the fruits of our labour - blackberry's are just starting to ripen and Johnny made sure we all got to try, it was a case of second time lucky. Handfuls of blackberries await us next time.

There's plenty more brambling to be done at the park, as all of the trees in the centre are battling with the brambles for moisture. So the idea is to chop away the lower branches so its more manageable for the small team of gardeners to get to the root of the problem.

Check out this wednesday's community mission and future listings for more chances to get hacking!
