It's unusually quiet in the City Harvest this evening. Probably others wanted to enjoy the nice weather this evening. So did I, with pears, potatoes, and tomatoes during the volunteer week. Today we only had 3 volunteers covering the 6-8 pm shift.

As it is volunteer week this week, City Harvest made cards for every volunteer and invited us to a picnic on the 7th of June in Acton Park.

The pile of pears was already picked and only a handful left to be sorted which is not new to me and Chiara who is a regular at City Harvest. Then the warehouse manager Ruby asked us to remove frozen meat from the freezer and sort it by chicken, red meat, and seafood, which we did in under 10 minutes.

As we were about to tear the sack of potatoes, a newbie volunteer to City Harvest, Orla, joined us and jumped right into the task. So the three of us filled mini buckets with potatoes from the sack and dumped them into crates arranged on a pallet. Soon we arranged all the 250kg of potatoes in crates.

The next task was to make a pallet of 5 crates of meat, 15 crates of dairy products, and 10 crates of ready meals. Chiara started pulling out crates with food from the big fridge. Orla and I started making the pallets. Then we secured the pallet by covering them with cling films.

The time was hitting 7:20 and the next task was to remove tomatoes from their covers and started making crates. After 5 crates in Ruby said, that would be enough for now and we wrapped up the evening.
