Pack and Deliver!: Helping out the Compassionate Card Project

Nicola and Christine met Jasmine from ‘The Ways to Wellbeing team’ at York CVS reception, Priory Street Centre, and were given the task i.e. select card craft pack contents (using a sample pack as a guide), then deliver them to two socially isolated people; cards raise money for charities and can be purchased at York CVS reception (current charity is St. Leonard’s Hospice).

We took our time, carefully choosing the pack’s contents (selecting from large white and small colour blank card/envelope sets, an assortment of coloured craft papers, stickers, ribbons, stars, and card type tags etc), and put them and glue sticks in large manila envelopes. As it was raining, Christine lent Nicola her Envirosax to carry the envelopes on her back under her raincoat (so they wouldn’t get squashed or wet).

The destinations were in Nicola’s neck of the woods so Christine followed Nicola’s chosen route. We had a refreshing and steady jog in light rain and got wet. Both isolated people came to the door to receive the packs and thanked us for our trouble. Nicola and Christine went separate ways. Christine picked up her third 5 kg bag of Chick Crumb for the wild lady mallard and her 13 ducklings (they are going through food very quickly, as very little is edible in the enclosed back yard, and they aren't yet able to fly out)!
