The end of a winning streak

The 4 weeks of milestone Mondays didn't disappoint tonight!

Our very own Gillybean , who has been with us since our very first task back in March 2017 celebrated her 200th good deed this evening. Gill has been a regular member of the task force and has taken a special interest in the outside space at Worthing Leisure Centre. She has also worked tirelessly with Creative Waves at The Bug Cycle garden and is always willing to go the extra mile to help. She's also an awesome runner and cycle a lot too! Congratulations Gill and thank you :)

January Challenge

It was the last Monday of January and we had another great turn out to finish the challenge. I had previously been asked to set individual targets for our area. Based on last years results, I nudged up the tasks and the mileage so that it would be an achievable but manageable target ( unlike other areas who seemed to reach their targets by week 2 ! ) More update on this at the end of the report.

Run / walk starter

Theres always a choice of walking and running and tonight was no different. The group split into 2 groups with Duncan, Lucy, Paul and Sarah heading off for a run around the pier with some sprints thrown in and Ricky, Barbara John and Belinda walking to the pier and back to our task meeting point.

2 in a bed or was it 3

We had recently been asked by the beach office to help with some of the seafront flower beds that hadn't been tended to by their tenants since the summer. Tonight we made a start on the ones east of the pier.

Big kudos to Lucy and Duncan who had travelled from Portsmouth in the rush hour traffic to support us this evening - Very much appreciated. They, together with Ricky jumped into working on several of the bedraggled beds.

It was such a lovely surprise to see Natacha appear too. We wasted no time in putting her to work too and getting photo evidence of it too!

Gillybean and Barbara had started on the GG flowerbed then moved on to the neighbouring ones too. The team had previously tidied the GG one and planted bulbs back in October but it still benefited from another prune and tidy up whilst carefully avoiding the shoots of spring that are starting to pop up.

John and Sarah paired up which is always slightly worrying ( in a purely jovial way) due to their tendency to distract one another with chatting !! There was definite progress in the weeding and tidying of the bed but I'm not sure how much of it was down to our lovable double act!

Paul always totally focused on getting on with the task spent quite some time tidying up the beds that are most visible from the road which was a great idea. He is a shining example of how much we can achieve in a short amount of time!

Several hollers to the 'bin lady' Sue could be heard along the seafront. Sue,who had rushed straight from work ( still looking glamorous) was patrolling the prom with the all important blue bin liner. collecting debris ! Thank you Sue for making time to join in tonight!

And so to the pub!

With tools down we all headed to the pub where Gillybean received her 200th gift of an embroidered beanie hat which perfectly coordinated with her red and black top and converse trainers tonight !

This evening was also an awards evening with Ricky winning the GG Worthing most improved runner of 2022 award - Many congratulations and well deserved Ricky! We look forward to your continuing progress in 2023 - it has certainly started well :)

January Challenge Results - WE DID IT ! Thanks to a sterling all round team effort we got it over the line and exceeded both our task and km targets making us overall top achiever in Group H ! Please accept a heartfelt thank you from me and lets give ourselves one big CHEER ! Next Monday we can add on another pub visit ( this will make John happy) to celebrate. From 7 pm at The Egremont. All welcome.
