No j(oak) we raised the roof

Six Goodgymers spent a beautiful sunny March morning at the Tree Musketeers Nursery at Hackney Marshes. After a short tour of the nursery where we learned about the work of the volunteers, including their 3 beehives, we set to work. Toyin got stuck into sawing branches to clear the area around the roof of the lock up (more on that later). The rest of the gang helped with moving some (rather heavy) conifers and oak trees from one space to another. Then it was all hands on deck for the main task of the morning; fixing the roof of the lockup which had sprung a leak. This involved lifting a large piece of felt onto the roof of the container and positioning it over the hole. We then covered the whole thing with tarpaulin and tied it to secure. This was a carefully planned exercise and in no way involved making it up as we went along. With the roof expertly repaired all that was left to do was clear away the branches and twigs and reward ourselves with tea and biscuits. Keep an eye out for future tasks with the Tree Musketeers, including their next nursery session on 27 April.
