It was a bright and breezy morning at the seafront for South Shields parkrun. The beautiful views and friendly atmosphere marred only by my swollen ankle following yesterday's tumble. A quick chat with the lovely run director and my volunteer role was switched form tail walker to barcode scanner.

Anastasia had to make a quick dash up the hill to her marshal point while Michael and I waved fellow GoodGymer Paul off on his run with Debbie bringing up the rear with the tail walkers.

After a chatty walk up the hill with our fellow finish line volunteers we settled into our spots on The Leas ready for the runners. Michael kept the finish tokens under control and I cheerily scanned barcodes and finish tokens

The wind turned chilly as we waited for the tailwalkers to come into sight but we welcomed them home with a rousing cheer as they crossed the line, arms linked, with 84 year old veteran runner Fred. Fred has amassed more than 300 runs and 70 volunteer tasks. Parkrun goals right there!

Of course parkrun is not complete without the obligatory coffee and bacon butty, so with hi-vis returned and barcodes submitted we headed into The Bambrugh.

Massive thanks to South Shields parkrun for having us.

Missed joining us today? There's still time to sign up to tomorrow's litter pick at the Ouseburn.
