Kash and Sevan were unusually early for today's mission. After a run along the Grand Union Canal, they found that they had time to stroll through Southall Green and enjoy the sunshine, before arriving at Mrs A's house. Today was almost the anniversary of their first mission together, 1 year plus 1 day since they were waiting to weed Ms C's gardens

Mrs A's grandson answered the door and led them through to the back garden, telling Kash and Sevan that "the boss" was in the bathroom and would be out in a minute. Indeed, Mrs A appeared soon after and explained to the GoodGymers that last year, something had bitten her in the garden which had affected her legs. That meant that she couldn't work in the garden and it had taken her 8 months of recovery so far. Kash and Sevan were concerned for Mrs A and equally, worried about the unknown predator that may be hiding in the little back garden 😨.

Looking at the garden, it was overgrown. The most obvious thing was that the grass on the lawn was almost at knee height. Mrs A also pointed to the flower beds, explaining that apart from the mint and a few bushes, everything was a weed. The pots were a bit more complicated, but they were more or less filled with weeds too.

Like so many missions past, Kash grabbed the lawnmower to cut the grass and Sevan a trowel to dive into the weeds. Kash, after some puzzling, managed to clip the grass box into place and made swift work of scything the grass back down to a manageable length. Sevan, meanwhile was trying to untangle the weeds from the stalks of mint dotted all over the flowerbeds. The weeds were the usual suspects, mostly something with red stems (😕), bindweed and nettles.

As Kash finished cutting the grass, she moved onto weeding on the other side of the garden to Sevan. Mrs A's daughter then turned up and with 3 generations of the family in the garden, they spoke fondly about Mrs A's green fingers and all of the fruit that they'd enjoyed from it over the years. There was always more being planted and this year they were expecting lemons, limes, strawberries, cherries and apples in addition to the various herbs being grown.

Soon time was up and 2 garden waste bags were stuffed to the brim. The garden was looking much better. No doubt the weeds will be back and thrive through the summer though. Kash and Sevan will keep an eye out for any fruity mission listings in Southall over the next few months.
