19 lovely runners ran 4km to weed the flower beds and clear out the toy container at The Bridge!

Last night we ventured back to a classic GGG task... in fact, this was my first ever GoodGym Greenwich task before I became a trainer, so it's got a special place in my heart ❤.

We were joined by new runner and clarinetist, Gennie. Welcome Gennie, hope you had a good first run with us! We also congratulated Amy on her amazing achievement at the weekend... a 3:18 marathon... which is honestly just insane, huge well done again Amy!!!

19 complete nerds

I thought we were going to get a clean sweep of people saying PE since you're all such an active bunch.. but no, turns out we were clearly all huge geeks at school. The least surprising answer was Brin's which was geography... for anyone who doesn't know Brin... he LOVES maps. I was fortunate enough to be stuck in the Lake District with him for a race that took over 11 hours and he carried the map in his hand the entire time!

We went off to do a little warm up which required a bit of body contact, the best way to make a new friend! After a few mins of jumping around we were good to go! We set off along the main road and arrived at The Bridge in no time.

Ruth, Raeleen and Raeleen's daughter Henrietta were there to greet us, although it was already getting dark so we needed to get a wiggle on! Ruth pointed out the weeding that needed doing which a few people got on with straight away. Meanwhile everyone else took to the container and started emptying it all out. It just needed a good sweep and a clean inside and then everything putting back in... seemingly an easy job but there was A LOT of stuff in there.

The weeders were doing an amazing job. The strawberry plants were gone within minutes and it was starting to look super neat and tidy! Vickie even found a carrot to have for her dinner!

Dark times

By about 7:45, it was pretty dark. Sadly winter is indeed coming. There were a few head torches around (Gennie's pink ladybird was AWESOME!), and Vickie ate her carrot to make her see in the dark better so thankfully work was still getting done at a pretty swift pace!

After half an hour, all the weeds were thrown on the compost heap and all the toys had been put back in the container! NICE WORK!!!

The lovely ladies had kindly left us out some squash and biscuits so we had a little break to admire our handy work, took a group photo and then got going again, back to the uni for the fitness session!

Progression intervals

Since the run was quite short, I thought we would do a bit more running in the fitness session. So we did 4 laps, with 60s rest in between each one and the idea was to get progressively faster on each lap. A lot of us are guilty for just going out for a run at the same casual pace, but it really helps with your speed in the long term if you go through all of your gears, you'll be surprised how far you can actually push yourself! Hopefully everyone got faster on each lap and left enough in the tank for a fast final lap! It sure looked like you did anyway!

Everyone got their breath back and we walked up for a little stretch and we were DONE!!!

Thanks so much for all your hard work last night! I've already received a lovely email from Ruth: "Just to say a big thank you to everyone last night who sorted/cleaned the container and did the weeding. A fabulous job and we hope you enjoyed it too. Amazing what can be achieved by torchlight with such a great group of people!"... so you should all be super proud! See you next week!
