Two GoodGym Yorkies ran to Mrs T's house to cut back some trees and shrubs

The first challenge was to find the house - we nearly missed the entrance because it was so concealed by trees and shrubs, but the mass of leaves spilling out from the front garden gave us a clue. It prompted us to retrace our steps and look more closely for the entrance which was indeed hidden behind the greenery.

Our first task was actually to help Mrs T to change a light bulb. She'd managed to get the old bulb out, but her poor vision meant that she was struggling to replace it.

Mrs T purposely lets her front garden grow a little bit wild to encourage the birds, bees and butterflies to come out to play in the summer. Until now she's been able to keep on top of the trees and shrubs to keep the footpath clear. She had a range of telescopic tools to reach right to the top of the house-height trees but she was struggling to do it for herself nowadays. She only has vision in one eye which makes it difficult to line the loppers up from so far away.

Paul immediatly got to work craning his neck to trim the top of the trees, making sure to avoid the overhead telephone cables just above!

I worked lower down:

*Chopping back the shrubs around the path to make the postman's job easier

*Sweeping the leaves from the footpath to prevent it getting slippery when wet

*Cuting back the ivy that was starting to encroach on the path.

Soon the green bin was full to the brim. Mrs T was pleased that the clearance was already letting extra light into the property, which would be handy with the shorter days in the winter.

As we bid farewell, Mrs T pointed out a robin which hopped across the path to inspect our handy work. It seemed pretty happy with the results!
