Let there be light(bulbs)

8 GoodGymmers met up on a cloudy Sunday afternoon to assist task owners Andy and Michael on this brand new task, planting daffodil bulbs to lighten up Grove Hall Park.

Escaping the earlier rain by just a few minutes, we split up into two teams of four to dig and remove turf sections that our task owners had clearly marked up. Team JICH (John-Ivy-Ceiling-Hannah) opted for a straight-to-the-point method: remove turf, bury bulbs, put turf back, repeat. Meanwhile, Team RAIN (Rebecca-Alex-Isabelle-Nina) elected to divide the turf sections into smaller squares, neatly removing them and placing them aside in a very orderly fashion, turn the soil to plant the bulbs, and finally put the turf squares back. This took us slightly longer than expected but wonderful Team JICH came to the rescue to ensure all the turf sections were placed back before we ran out of time.

The result in numbers

• A total of 3,500 bulbs were to be planted

• Around 2,600 bulbs had already been planted before GoodGym came in

• Team JICH and Team RAIN planted a total of 700 bulbs today, which amounts to a magnificent 78% tunover rate for Team Tower Hamlets in a 90 minute session (rate which my injured self may have distorted slightly 🤫).
