Mission

La vie en roses

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Greenwich.

Today was George’s & my first mission! We were both a bit nervous when we rang the bell, but Ms P soon put us at ease and after some prompting gave us some beautifully specific instructions!

Drawing on our experience with gardening from Goodgym Greenwich and a farming heritage that meant we both probably should know a lot more about plants and stuff than we do, we cleaned up the gravel, straight-up fought several bushes into submission and tried our best to un-bind bindweed.

We had several long debates about the correct amount of cutting things back, but luckily Ms P came out a couple of times to check on us and we were able to get some artistic input. It took us over two hours (the time flew by and luckily it didn’t even rain), but when we had finished, the gate could be opened, we could see there were roses on the rose bushes and we had gained a new respect for both the tenacity of bindweed and people who have gardens!

This was also Ms P’s first time having Goodgymmers come to her house, but she seemed pleased and hoped that we or some other runners would be able to come back soon. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and I think we would both highly recommend giving a mission a go!
