Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This morning I met up with Jody for a mission in Islington for Mr G. Jody's bouncy enthusiasm certainly put my binge-watching bleary eyes to shame, but I was looking forward to waking up a bit more as we helped. I need my mission-fix to get me through the weekend (tbh, I think I'm addicted to the puns most of all 😅).
Mr G has been in and out of hospital over the last few months, and has found that he's been unable to keep up with the gardening as a result. He asked if GoodGym could help out with his hedge, as he was worried that it was growing into the street and impeding passers by.
This seemed like a nice and straightforward task for the morning. As there was only one pair of shears, Jody and I switched between cutting and cleaning up. Aside from kindly allowing me to hog the hedge-trimming (I'm essentially a hedge-hog), Jody also allowed (even welcomed!) some of my newly acquired TFL knowledge, and a discussion of one of my favourite etymological examples (the origin of "being square" - unrelated to TFL. For the record, I also like the origin of being "at sixes and sevens"). Jody also gets a prize for the "Weirdest thing found in a hedge" this week - a roller from a recent paint job! :D
Just over an hour later, we were pretty much done, staying just a few minutes longer to straighten up the newly denuded hedge and to chat with Mr G and his sister.
It was fun catching up with you, Jody; hope you enjoy your theme park visit later today! 😄
