Two GG Yorkies met Jonathan at St Nicks to seek out balsam and destroy it!

As we walked along the cycle path carrying scythes and pitchforks, we attracted a bit of interest from the public.

Are you the Grim reaper?

To our left all we could see was endless towers of nettles.

I'll just cut us a path in (Jonathan)

After a few minutes, Jonathan had made enough of a clearing for us to get to work. Usually we'd be looking to preserve nettles, which are good for strong and stable banks. In this case, there are future plans to develop the land, so our mission was to destroy everything.

We spent a happy hour mercilessly scything everything to the ground, revealing massive stems of giant balsam as we went.

After raking everything into a big pile we stood back to admire our work.

The next few weeks at St Nick's are likely to be more of the same, so if you fancy yourself with a scythe, check out the group run listings to sign up for the next community mission.
