I've been doing some technical volunteering for GoodGym lately and my first contribution was accepted on Monday 9th. This was to improve the register page that task force members use to record who attended.

It's always been difficult to find and add people that did not sign up for a task in advance as the page only allowed you to search for people by their email. Often we don't know someone's email, and we can't always guess it as not everyone's email contains their name. To fix this, I changed the page so you can now search by name as well.

I also made some other improvements to this page to make it generally easier to use and to see who is on the register:

• Show names and primary areas when searching for someone
• Show names and primary areas in the attendees list
• Order by name in the sign-ups, attendees and search results
• Don't offer to create a new runner when a valid email address has not been entered
• Show the sign-ups list before the attendees list (yes, I know the + buttons are now on the wrong side...)
• Improve the instructions
• And various other small tweaks

The page is still not perfect, and hopefully can be improved further in future. For now though, I hope I've managed to make things a bit easier and quicker for people!
