Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Round two round at Mrs L's place! Last time we were there, we spotted lots of other jobs that would make the garden safer for her to get out and enjoy the summer sunshine.

When we arrived, Mrs L was feeling under the weather and wasn't well enough to chat but after a quick hello from some familiar faces and a couple of new ones, she went in for a rest and we got to work.

We had a few tasks in our sights:

  1. An entire flower bed had been invaded by weeds. Gina and Becky dug for victory and had it cleared by half time

  2. Grass had grown up between the patio slabs causing a trip and slip hazard. A second-half job for Gina and Becky. Scraping out weeds from between the gaps is strangely satisfying!

  3. An unwieldy bramble was occupying a large bush in the corner. Enter Teresa and her large loppers! The thorns were razor sharp and neither Teresa or Tracey left the battle unscathed but thank goodness for essential PPE of sunglasses! Blood was drawn but we were victorious - hurrah! It wasn't until the end it became apparent that it was in fact more bramble than bush!

As has become tradition, we had a half time stop for a drink, and a Club biscuit supplied by Teresa. Has Mr Teresa worked out yet why his stocks of chocs at home are depleted around the time of every GoodGym task?

Every GoodGymer who's cut back brambles knows that the hardest part is wrestling them into bin bags. Feeling a bit battle weary and being resourceful types, we used an old ripped industrial bag instead. By the time we'd added the weeds from the rest of the garden it was completely full, ready to be taken away by the council.

We checked in by phone with Mrs L to say goodbye and to make sure she was OK before we left, and hope she had a lovely surprise when she was well enough to get out and inspect our work. Another lovely sunny and productive task done.
