Ice, Ice, Baby!!

15 brave GoodGymers ran 6k to Abney Park, creates 100 metres of winter path and celebrated a fantastic GG Hackney year with our Christmas Social.

On the final run of 2017 15 GoodGym Superstars joined forces for some fancy dress shovelling action!

Perhaps the most important deeds of the day was to present to very well earned GoodGym 100 GoodDeed T-Shirts that money simply can’t buy to awesome Ros and Phil!!

We set off on our 3k Run taking things steady this week with plenty of ice on the ground we even had to take a detour to avoid the newly formed London Fields Ice Rink!

Making our way to Abney Park to meet Park Ranger Tom who had all the tools laid out for us to bust into action. Following the ice path to the far side of the park we met a smoking pile of wood chip and go to work! Working in perfect harmony we had shovelers and barrowers filling up and zipping along to top the wood chip and restore that area of path for the winter. The restored pathway allows the park to be used Year round and protects the ridiculously diverse vegetation and wildlife living there to.

Big shout out to Bri and DJ Patrick for catching us up at the Park after traffic and a Coach Run! Bringing the party tunes got us in the festive mood!

Barrow after Barrow headed down into the darkness with our new minors lights to guide the way it was a little less scary being locked in a cemetery on an icy night in December. 40 minutes of action and a few size 11 kicks to spread and flatten the wood chip and 100 metres of path had been created!! Smashed It

With food very much in our mind we headed 3k back to base taking it steady with the ice warming shouts becoming more regular.

Just time for Phil in his new t-shirt to win Quiz master Ros’s (in her new t- shirt) final question of the day 2017!! Getting closest with 1958 to guessing ‘After first being published privately in 1928, when was Lady Chatterley’s Lover finally published in the UK?’ Answer was 1960.

A sad fair well to Nick who has been a GoodGym hero braving all weathers towards the end of the year. Wish you well on your adventures and hope to see you again on your return!

With the run done we headed to Tad restaurant and miraculously grew in number as ** Cecilia, Tom B, Alex and Park Ranger Tom** joined us for the feast!! Great times and laughs had by all before headed off into the night with GG Hackney 2017 complete!

Thank you all for your hard work, help, chat, smiles and positivity all year it’s been a pleasure to spend all bar one of my Tuesdays in 2017 with you. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and see you all (maybe a little ambitious) on the 2nd of January.
