Confronted by shoulder high grass I set to work with the strimmer and shears to clear as much as I could. The grass was obstructing access to the house so I prioritised clearing the area around the path and the bit outside the window so the resident could see the fields beyond. After rescuing several ladybirds from the bin bags of cuttings and some litter picking I had tidied up most of the patch, but I was beaten by the last swathe of wilderness (good for the wildlife though I guess!). According to a neighbour it’s the best the garden has looked in some time so I can take solace in that! Next time I’ll pack the combine harvester.
