Last night 30 people ran 7km to build a woodland path (not a sand pit)

Last night's Group Run to Homerton Adventure Playground had all the ingredients to make a rather delicious butt busting GoodGym session.

Build a woodland path in an adventure playground in 30 minutes

Ingredients include:

  • Plenty of enthusiastic new runners
  • Lots of experienced GoodGymers
  • A sprinkle of anticipation
  • Loads of banter
  • New running routes through Hackney
  • A hearty welcome from host, Bridget
  • The usual change of plan (from sand pit to woodland path building…)
  • Oodles of thinking on feet and team work
  • Just enough tools
  • Rapid chain log lifting and tossing - to build the path's base
  • Plenty of soil digging and wheelbarrowing - to build the path's second layer
  • Much mulch shovelling and speading - to build the path's final layer
  • Lashings of puffing and panting
  • Heaps of encouragement
  • A touch of weeding and sweeping
  • A big round of applause

Bridget and the team at the playground were astounded and happy with our work. They have been using funding to help improve the playground for local kids and their families. With limited man power and time, they were under pressure to finish works by their launch this Saturday. It was truly a splendid team effort!

Building such a path in only 30 minutes could only be topped off with 5 minutes of sprint / jog recovery laps in Wells Street Common and a steady and a steady run back to base.
