(unlucky for some) 13 Goodgymers hit the sinister streets, took on a 7k run, and met the mini beasts at Wolves Lane

En route to GGH HQ things seemed a little strange

Aside from waking up with this song in my head and having a spot of man flu yesterday started as any other day, but as the day went on it got weirder and weirder. So much so that come mid day I began to seriously worry about the effects of my man flu (mind you this is probably common to most cases of man flu). I’d be here a long time if I told you of all the weirdness so I’ll just skip to my journey to meet the other GGers later that evening. En route to GGH HQ (Tottenham Green Leisure Centre) things seemed a little strange, I began to notice no one was really engaging with each other and everyone seemed to be looking down instead of ahead.

Shouts out to Sarah on her 150th good deed

‘T was all about the suspense

On arrival to HQ I noticed Dashing Dave outside the leisure centre holding a stance much like those I had seen en route a short while earlier. I felt slightly unnerved, but the excitement of the task ahead brushed any nervousness aside. Once everyone else had arrived, I prompted people to check out the task sheets knowing there would be a few questions as I had deliberately made the description of or task sparse to say the least, merely mentioning that the task was inside. ‘T was all about the suspense. We headed outside for our health and safety briefing and warm up before heading towards Wolves Lane 3.5k away. Before leaving we congratulated Sarah on her 150th good deed. En route we continued to #RunAndTalk and soon the conversation turned to the truly horrifying news that Abba may be reuniting along with reports of killer clowns running around the UK and beyond. Of course, one of the original scary clowns Pennywise was mentioned.

abnormal vigor

The lovely task owners Clare and Phil met us at the horticultural centre’s front gates, then whisked us through the cafe to the wonderfully warm rainforest enclosure where we’d be spreading compost, digging up a huge unwanted plant that stood in one of the enclosures corners and dig out then plant a few new plants. The team seemed to get stuck into this with abnormal vigor. I noticed one of our runners seemed a little saggy around the neck. I began to wonder if I had brushed up on the Datura plant which is housed at the centre. In some ways I hoped that I had as my fellow GGers were really beginning to freak me out.

mini beasts

Soon after we had managed to complete the tasks at hand and were in for a trick or treat at the back of the rainforest enclosure so off we went past the rather large carp and terrifying terrapins to what looked like a class room. This room housed the centres mini beasts. One of our faithful runners simply could not bare the sight of these critters so waited outside as the others checked out the tarantula, snakes, lizards and HUGE hissing cockroaches *shudder! After checking up on the slightly frightened GGer outside and getting a few snaps it was time to call it a night and head back. Clare and Phil were super chuffed with what we'd done and they look forward to having us back for some regular weekend missions which will include making a beach for those terrapins. High fives seemed a little difficult for the runners and kinda reminded me of an old Impulse advert. The run back to HQ was slower than ever due to the fact everyone seemed to lose form dramatically along with lots of dribbling and groaning.. we scared a few passers by and one poor guy was even knocked off of his bicycle by a car.. the pair may have been rubbernecking at our rubbernecks.. sadly this was a hit and run but even though everyone seemed a little - off - two of our GGers managed to get a partial reg number. The cyclist was thankfully unhurt but his bike wasn't so lucky.
