Eager to get started Carl was already going when Georgie arrived. Some rather impressive nettles and weeds (half way up the garden fence!) had just been cut back and now Mrs J wanted a border cut into the edge of the lawn for some sunflowers she'd been growing.

It was warm work but the border came on well fairly quickly, saving some bulbs found in the ground along the way. Or at least that was what it seemed until Carl came across a pretty impressive tree root. Undeterred and determined not to leave it in to disrupt the flower bed he hacked at it with the shovel, chopped at the longer roots with (some rather ineffective) secateurs and fought with it until finally coming out the victor.

With the bed finished they decided to have a last tidy up. Georgie raked up the dried up weeds and nettles where they'd been cut down, ready for the sowing of some wildflower seeds.

No doubt when Mrs J gets her sunflowers and plants into the border and those wildflowers start to grow (even if there'll be a wait for those) it'll be a lovely sunny corner to enjoy!
