Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Mike Oakes
This Sunday, two GoodGym’ers met in Swindon ready to chop, lop and secateur a hedge!
Meeting nearby to the Mission location, we were ready to go! Kirsty was fresh from results processing at Lydiard Junior parkrun, while Mike was fresh from the difficult task of eating a sausage sandwich for breakfast/running from the Oasis.
We knocked at the door and were met by Mr J’s daughter, who showed us the hedge and equipped us with tools. But before we were got started, we popped in for a quick chat.
Mr J was really grateful for our help. In his time, he was a keen gardener and showed us pictures of his award winning local allotment. If he could, he would have loved to be out there giving us a hand.
With that brilliant motivation, we got started. Slightly overgrown and with brambles trying to find their way into the garage, the hedge had to be hacked.
In no time, apart from a little bit of ditch dodging, we were done! We had filled a wheelie bin and two big plant pots, and had significantly shortened the shrubbery!
Mr J and his daughter were both very grateful, and after a bit of a chat, we left with the glow of another good deed!
